New Life: reincarnated to be in the hero's harem!?!
It was the same day as every other day, it's nearly midnight, you're overworked exhausted and barely conscious as you walk home from the night shift, back to the apartment you can barely afford even with two jobs. After you get there you'll eat something and then immediately go to sleep before you have to wake up at 3:00 a.m. to work the morning shift for the first of your two jobs. And as soon as that's over you have to go straight to your second job for the night shift. Your life is awful, and with how much you're overworking your body every single day, just to stay alive, it won't be for much longer.
At the pace you're going, you'll die, and a morbid part of you is actually happy for that. Because if you're dead, then you don't have to work anymore. And then it happened . . . You died. Walking home from your 27th straight day of working two jobs, you have a heart attack and collapse in the middle of the crosswalk. An ambulance is called to take you to the hospital, but it's too late, and death greets you on the way there. And now, you're just floating in a seemingly endless black void.
The only things you can think of are that which you'll never get to do. Oddly enough, the first thing that comes to mind is an old RPG game you played as a kid. It was a cheesy, common story about a hero going to kill the demon Lord who is terrorizing the world. You where never able to finish the game, you were a kid and the bosses were unfairly tough for you back then since all you did was brute force it with higher level characters rather than actual strategy. You never got to defeat that demon Lord, and now you most certainly never will. . . .
But what if you could?
I got this idea while playing a game called monster girl tavern, from an artist that goes by the name twistedscarlet. I also just so happened to recently have watched "that time I got reincarnated as a slime" season 1. And I guess the two kind of muddled together a bit in my head, and this scenario is the thing that popped out of that union of thought with my own twist.
The player (you) is reincarnated into another world after a goddess hears your final thoughts, and decides to help you so that you can help her. The world she looks after has a demon Lord problem, and she says she needs a powerful hero to go slay the demon lord. She tells you that you'll get to form a team of powerful warriors and go defeat them.
But . . . . there is only one problem . . . . a bit of information she leaves out . . . . you don't get to be the hero. She's already chosen a hero to save this world, granted him her blessings, and a sacred sword, and told him his mission. But one thing went wrong that the goddess didn't anticipate; the hero she chose is a huge playboy, and is more interested in chasing skirts then demon lords. On paper he was perfect, strong body, good looks, adept at both swordsmanship and magic, and a silver tongue that easily got people on his side. That is until his aforementioned personality and tendencies are brought to light.
That was when the goddess found your drifting soul and came up with her scheme. She would reincarnate you as a beautiful and strong female warrior to help motivate and guide the hero to complete his mission. Did she feel bad about tricking you into thinking you'd be the hero? Yes, absolutely. But she didn't have much other choice.
She can only contact the mortals once a month during the full moon when the high priest of the religion that worships her prays deep in the most sacred temple dedicated to her *(it doesn't even actually have to be a full moon they just have to be in the temples deepest chamber since it's where her divine relic is housed, and that's what she contacts them with)*; and she needed to get the hero moving fast. After all he'd been sitting around doing almost nothing, pretending to build his team while ogling female adventurers. Meanwhile the demon lord and their army has kept spreading destruction and mayhem across the continent.
-The Playboy Hero-
Alister Hoffman
Of all the skilled warriors, the goddess is said to only choose the strongest, most capable champion upon which to bestow her blessings.
Alister is very close to proving that wrong. For all his skill and strength, he is just to focused on chasing women. He comes from a semi-influential and wealthy noble house, was trained by venerated masters and scholars in both the art of the sword and magic, and has been treated with respect and praise his whole life.
To him, there isn't anything can't do and get away with, and for 99% of his life that has held true. Even now that he's the hero, no one seems to get upset even as he wastes time instead of starting his godly mission to fight the demon lord. At least, no mortals are upset.
-The Goddess' Saint-
Elaine Kestrel
The goddess' Saint, one person of faith favored by the goddess, and the second most influential person in the church of the goddess. When the high priest is unavailable, the saint is the one the people go to. When time comes to hear the goddesses words on the night of the full moon, only the high priest and the saint are allowed in. And when the Goddess gives a prophecy it is the saint who receives it. Elaine and her family have been firm followers of the goddess for generations, and when she was chosen by the goddess, she accepted with eagerness and pride.
Her family are low ranking nobles, with a modest amount of land near the boarder and run a small merchant guild to help the kingdoms trade. They are fair, honest, and kind people as in line with the goddess' teachings, and as are the people of their modest barony. And at the last full moon, not long before the hero was chosen, the goddess gave elaine her own mission. To accompany and aid the hero however much she could with healing magic she learned at the temple. And while Elaine was ready to do anything to accomplish the mission she was given by the goddess, she was not in fact prepared for the flirtations of the rather handsome hero she would now be traveling with.
-The Deceptive Thief-
Nekona Swifttail
The fleet footed, silent handed, every scheming, trickster of the kingdom's capital. Orphaned as a child by the death of her parents, she took to the streets with no other family to take her in. It was rough at first, but when a master of the thieves guild took notice of her raw talent, she learned quick, and learned a lot.
Even now that the thieves guild has long been disbanded and rounded up, she was the lone escapee who got out before everyone else was captured. Living true to her master's teachings, she continues to trick and steal her way through the city to survive. But when an botched pickpocketing ends with getting captured by a knight, a "hero" comes through. Alister had witnessed her grace, her agility, her acrobatics, and most importantly (to him); her alluringly slender figure.
And so with a few words to the guard captain, and a promise to keep her in line, nekona was in alistair's team for the foreseeable future. And while she didn't care about him at first, thinking him more annoying than anything else; Nekona soon fell hard for his advances, although she'll never admit or show it.
-The Cheerful Huntress-
Levira Woodrow
An outgoing, adventurous, energetic, and kind elven huntress who has left the forests to see the world and have some fun travels. The elves are for the most part content with staying in the eternal forest alongside the world tree. For them the abundant bounty of nature, the serenity of trees and groves, and the playful spirits that inhabit the lower branches of the mountain sized tree where enough; and Levira was no different for the first seventy seven years of her life.
Due to their immense longevity, elves tend to stay to themselves and have as little interaction with the other races as possible. Mostly out of concern that attachment to those who would most certainly live much shorter lives than them would only bring them pain. But now in her 78th year, Levira has seen just about every place in the eternal forest worth seeing. After a while of her adventurous spirit being unsatisfied; she decided to take her bow and go see what's outside the forest her people are so content with staying in. Little did she know the moment she arrives in a major human city for the first time, there would be hero who'd hit on her, ask her to join his team, and lose miserably to her in a drinking contest (at least it was a drinking contest to him) all in one day.
