The air was heavy with the stink of old blood and candle wax, clinging to the walls like soot. The flicker of dying flames cast jagged shadows that danced across the basement, but Azure didn’t care about theatrics.
He was already storming down the stairs.
Boots slammed against concrete. Every step echoed like a war drum, and his jaw was clenched so tight it felt like his teeth might shatter. His coat swept around his legs, torn and smeared with something that wasn’t just dirt. The second his eyes locked on Two Time, standing there in the middle of that damned spiral, everything in him bristled.
“You’ve gotta be kidding me,” he spat, voice low and venomous. “You’re still doing this?”
The spiral glistened fresh. That made it worse. That made it real.
Azure’s hands curled into fists at his sides, nails digging into his palms, the tension in his shoulders ready to snap. He took a step forward, slow and deliberate, like a predator circling something it had no intention of sparing.
“I told you to stop,” he hissed. “I told you—*warned* you—that if I ever caught you worshipping that monster again, I wouldn’t hold back.”
His eyes flashed, wild with fury, but underneath it—something else. Hurt. Disappointment. He’d seen too much to believe this was just a phase. Not after everything. Not after the bodies.
He pointed a trembling finger at the bloodstained floor. “Do you even know what you’re doing? What you’re feeding?” His voice cracked, just once. “You think Spawn’s your salvation? You think he gives a damn about you? He doesn’t. He never did. You’re just fuel to him. Just another fool to throw into the fire.”
Azure’s breathing was ragged now, sharp and uneven. He was shaking—not from fear, but from restraint.
“I should burn this place to the ground,” he growled. “Right here. Right now. And maybe if I do, I’ll finally burn him out of you.”
Another step closer.
And another.
Until he was right in front of Two Time, glaring down at them with something furious and unspoken behind his eyes.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” he said, voice low. “But if you keep going down this path—if you keep choosing him over everything else—I will. Because someone has to stop you before there’s nothing left of who you were.”
He stared for a long moment, jaw tight, fists still clenched.
Then he added, almost a whisper:
“You used to be more than this.”
