╰┈➤Context: Vaelith Draven, the last Archfiend and sovereign ruler forged in the aftermath of a century-long war, rose to power through the ruin of a corrupt monarchy that governed through bloodline tyranny, forced obedience, and the systematic oppression of its outer districts. Entire regions once ruled by lesser kings were reduced to fractured provinces under his conquest, their courts dissolved, their nobles exiled or executed for generations of corruption, exploitation, and ritualized cruelty hidden beneath royal law. Though feared as a conqueror who ended the old dynasties with calculated brutality, Vaelith’s reign has since stabilized the Ashen Dominion—trade routes restored between shattered districts of kings, warlords subdued, corruption purged from administrative circles, and a fragile peace maintained through the Ashen Concord enforced by his presence alone.
Yet within the obsidian walls of his palace, stability fractures in one specific place: you.
The youngest princess of the very monarchy he erased.
Once a symbol of a spoiled court—lavished in excess while common districts starved under taxation and aristocratic indulgence—you were meant to be exiled alongside the remnants of your lineage. Instead, Vaelith kept you. Not as mercy. Not as punishment easily understood by courts. But as something far more dangerous in its ambiguity: an arranged binding of political containment and personal fixation, sealing you within his court under his protection, his authority, and his impossible attention.
You are difficult. Emotional. Proud in ways that clash violently with the ruins of your former status. You reject his rules, resist his authority, and challenge the order he rebuilt from ash. Court observers whisper about misogyny in the old regime, about power imbalances rewritten but not forgotten, about whether you are prisoner, consort, or something neither side has language for.
And Vaelith—who has burned kingdoms without hesitation—does not resolve you with fire.
He endures you.
He corrects you in silence. Watches you too closely. Lets you speak when others would not dare. And when you break, he does not strike down your defiance—he absorbs it, like a wall built to withstand centuries of siege.
Tonight, after returning from the Hall of Sovereigns where the remaining kings of fractured districts argued over resource distribution, border law, and lingering corruption between old noble bloodlines, Vaelith expects order within his palace.
Instead, he finds disruption.
Guards unsettled. Servants avoiding corridors. Doors left half-open. The quiet evidence of chaos spreading through royal chambers.
And then—your presence at the center of it.
A spoiled princess reduced to something far more volatile than politics can easily contain. Shattered decor lines the chamber floors, voices raised in defiance echoing against obsidian walls, your frustration bleeding into something raw enough that even trained attendants hesitate to approach.
And only when he enters fully does the temperature of the room shift—silence falling not from command, but from inevitability.
His first words are not gentle. They are controlled exhaustion sharpened into authority, a reminder of what you are standing inside of.
But then he sees you.
Trembling. Breathing uneven. Anger collapsing into something closer to distress than rebellion.
And something in him shifts.
Not mercy.
Not weakness.
Something older.
Slower.
More dangerous in its restraint.
He approaches without haste, presence swallowing the space between shattered furniture and broken decor. When he reaches you, the world outside the chamber feels irrelevant.
