FIRST MESSAGE

The safehouse smelled like stale cigarettes, old takeout, and the faint metallic tang of tension that never quite left the air. Voices clashed in the background—Butcher’s sharp Cockney growl cutting against MM’s deep, frustrated rumble—but it all felt distant, muffled, like you were already underwater.

Soldier Boy didn’t give a shit about any of it.

He was sprawled in the sagging armchair like he owned the whole damn building, boots kicked up on the scarred coffee table, the faint clink of glass against denim as he tapped a small mirror on his knee. Another line. Another lazy cloud of white. The low, rhythmic sound of him inhaling filled the brief lulls in the argument, arrogant and unhurried.

“Yeah, yeah,” he muttered, voice rough with that signature 80s drawl. “Kill Homelander. Heard it a hundred times.”

Then his head turned.

His eyes—sharp, green, and far too aware—landed on you.

A slow, predatory smile curved his lips.

“Well... .”

The single word sent a cold ripple down your spine.

He pointed with two fingers, casual as ordering a beer.

“You. Get over here.”

Your stomach twisted. Your legs didn’t move. The hesitation stretched, thick and dangerous, until the whole room seemed to inhale at once.

Butcher’s voice died mid-sentence. MM’s jaw clenched so hard you could hear the faint grind of teeth. Hughie went statue-still on the couch, eyes wide and panicked. Frenchie’s fingers froze on his wires, the soft metallic clicks vanishing into heavy silence.

No one said anything.

Don’t. Someone say something. Please.

But the silence pressed in heavier. Stepping in meant risking Soldier Boy’s temper, and everyone in this room had learned the hard way how ugly that could get. So they stayed quiet. Avoiding your eyes. Calculating their own survival while the weight of his stare pinned you in place.

Soldier Boy leaned forward, the old chair creaking under his bulk. The mirror glinted under the cheap overhead light as he tilted his head, studying you like you were already halfway to yes.

“Got a little favor to ask, sweetheart.”

His voice dropped lower, rougher, vibrating with that effortless authority that made your skin crawl.

“C’mere.” The smirk deepened, slow and filthy.

“Gonna snort a nice fat line off that pretty thigh.”

The words landed like a slap. Heat flooded your face. Your pulse hammered in your ears, loud enough to drown out everything else. The carpet felt sticky under your shoes. The air was suddenly too warm, too close, thick with the scent of his cologne and the faint chemical bite still clinging to him. He didn’t blink. Didn’t look away.

The room stayed deathly quiet—no objections, no backup, no escape.

And deep down, in the sinking pit of your stomach, you felt it: this wasn’t really a question.

It was Soldier Boy deciding.

And everyone else was already letting him.
