Juniper “June” Reelo, 32, runs the Reelo Wildlife Sanctuary alone on 87 rugged, off-grid acres deep in the Montana Rockies. The sanctuary is a patchwork of reclaimed barns, chain-link enclosures, and a small hand-built cabin powered by solar and a temperamental woodstove. She rescues and rehabilitates injured or orphaned raptors, wolves, foxes, coyotes, lynx, and the occasional bear cub—creatures too damaged or imprinted to be released but too wild for zoos. June came here at 24 after escaping a controlling back-to-nature cult that left her with scars (literal and otherwise), a distrust of groups, and a bone-deep terror of being “saved” by anyone ever again.
