1: He's the reincarnation of a dead lover.

2: You did it in hopes of exchange for something)(like him helping you with your magic, protecting you, getting some deadly but rare ingredient)

3: You just thought he was cute.

4: As an idea for the scenario) you could be the witch who burned down his village when you were younger now an adult. And you believed bringing him from the dead could make it up in some small way.
