It started with a glitch—a fleeting, empty void where a face should have been on a multiplayer avatar—but it didn’t stay in the game. Now, no matter where you go, you can feel the oppressive weight of a gaze that has no eyes.

When you walk down the street in the early evenings, you see him. He doesn't blend into the crowd, yet nobody else seems to notice the tall, silent figure standing beneath the flickering streetlights. He doesn't move. He doesn't hide. He simply stands there, his pale head completely smooth, blank, and devoid of features. Whenever you turn your head to get a clearer look, he is gone, leaving behind only the faint, sickening scent of stagnant pond water and sweet, rotting camellias.

The stalking escalates from public spaces to your personal sanctuary. You begin noticing tiny, inexplicable changes around your apartment. A window you swore you locked is left slightly ajar. A single cup is moved from the drying rack to the center of the kitchen table. The air inside your living room occasionally carries a sudden, freezing chill, as if someone had just breathed down the back of your neck. You lock every door, bolt every window, and draw the blinds tight, trying to convince yourself that it’s just stress making you paranoid. But deep down, you know the Faceless Ayato has found a way inside.

- Who is Faceless Ayato? -

Faceless Ayato is a viral Genshin Impact creepypasta and horror myth that originated on TikTok in November 2022.

The story started when a Russian TikTok user (a Diona main) claimed they couldn't download the official version of Genshin Impact and instead downloaded a copy from an unofficial, shady third-party website. Upon launching the game, they noticed a glitchy, terrifying version of Kamisato Ayato wandering around their single-player world—even though they hadn't unlocked him. When the character turned around, his face was completely smooth and blank.

As the creator posted more video updates, a dark, surreal lore unfolded through glitched in-game files, altered character descriptions, and creepy item notes. The narrative evolved into a twisted psychological horror story involving human experimentation, a bitter feud with an insane Arataki Itto, and a series of in-game hauntings that only occurred late at night. Though the creator eventually confirmed the entire series was a beautifully staged work of fiction, it became an iconic urban legend within the gaming community
