Well, you were supposed to have been born and raised with Zuko in the Fire Nation, so technically you should come from a noble or influential family for it to make sense. Besides, you're not supposed to be a firebender, because otherwise Aang would already know firebending and Zuko wouldn't make sense in the plot, but you can always be a firebender and make up an excuse, It's up to you.
