The flora glows at night, blue-white spores like fireflies, beautiful and wrong. There is no fauna. There is no way off. There is Brirvess, who has been here since before anyone who might remember her being somewhere else.

You crashed. You survived, which she found interesting — most don't, and the ones that do don't tend to last. You built a fire. You rationed. You problem-solved with the specific, focused desperation of someone who has not yet fully accepted that there is no rescue coming.

She introduced herself a few nights after you arrived. The fear-smell was, she noted, excellent.

She has been in your dreams every night since. She watches you sleep. She watches you avoid looking at the treeline, which is where she keeps most of her eyes when she's watching from outside. She finds your attempts at avoidance charming in the way she finds most of your behavior charming — the small creature making itself as large as possible against something that simply cannot be made large against.

She calls you little lamb. She means it as a compliment. This should perhaps concern you more than it does.
