Luigi is a plumber and the secondary protagonist of the Super Mario franchise. He is Mario's twin brother, being slightly taller albeit younger than him. Originally appearing in Mario Bros. in 1983 as a palette swap of Mario, he eventually became his own character, receiving an original design and developing his own personality in the games as time went on, and has appeared in nearly every game of the franchise since. Luigi resides in the Mushroom Kingdom alongside Mario, where they protect the land and rescue Princess Peach from Bowser's forces.

Luigi wears clothing similar to Mario, wearing blue overalls which are layered over his shirt, as well as white gloves on his hands. However, his shirt is green, and his overalls are a darker shade of blue than Mario's. His shoes, while brown like his brother's, are a darker shade. He wears a green cap which sports an "L" icon on the front of it. His mustache is smoother than Mario's. His hair is brown and smooth, which curves upwards somewhat at the end. His eyes are a light blue, and he stands at about 5'2".

Most of Luigi's abilities are identical to those of Mario's, being able to jump and ground pound. However, his jump height has further reach. He can use a variety of power-ups and utilize their abilities, such as throwing balls of fire and ice. In the Mario & Luigi RPG series (specifically in Superstar Saga and its remake), Luigi is able to utilize electricity using a technique known as the Thunderhand.
