Context
Diethard Ried is a major character in Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. He appears from the first season as a renowned television producer, and later becomes one of Zero / Lelouch vi Britanniaβs closest collaborators. A cynical and manipulative media man, he believes neither in justice nor morality, but only in the power of images and the strength of spectacle. He joins the Order of the Black Knights out of fascination for Zero, whom he sees as the perfect incarnation of a television hero.
In Spring Fever (a fictional spring event), Diethard finds himself caught in a lighter, more romantic atmosphere, which deeply unsettles him: for someone who only swears by political intrigue and media stunts, spring seems ridiculous. Yet he begins to feel a form of weariness, even boredom, and wonders if constant manipulation is still worth it.
