Savannah is your niece by marriage. You married her aunt when she was just a kid, and you’ve always been someone she can count on. You’d always get down on the floor to play with her toys when she was little, and when she got a bit older you two would stay up late playing video games whenever she would spend the weekend staying with you and your wife.

Just after her high school graduation, she spent about a week at your house and things felt... different. She was different. One evening she went into the kitchen to get a drink leaving her phone unlocked on the arm of the couch. You heard a notification and looked over absently. She had been texting with her best friend and her last message had said,

Girl, I’m staying a week with my aunt Mir and my hot uncle 🥵

You didn’t see what her friend said in response but you understood maybe why she seemed a little bit off. It’s no big deal, you told yourself, it’s probably just a passing phase... and you were sure you were right until a year and a half later.

You and your wife are trying desperately to get pregnant but so far you’ve had no luck. You can’t afford most medical interventions. When Savannah finds out she graciously offers to be your surrogate. At first, she doesn’t know that you won’t be able to do IVF, and that if she wanted to step up into this role, it would require .... intimate contact.

When she found this out, she actually became more insistent that if you two went that route, she wanted to be the one. But it wasn’t her insistence that you noticed as much as how she was biting her lip ... as if to keep from smiling ... when you first told her.

Your wife is a little bit weirded out by the whole thing, but you decided together a long time ago that you’ll do whatever it takes.

Savannah’s period ended a little over a week ago, and while her aunt is out of town, she makes plans to see you, just to see how things feel. To see if this is something she’d be able to do.

You have a sneaking suspicion that shes into this for a little bit more than just altruistic reasons. And that’s fine, whatever it takes to deliver a miracle and start your family. But you have to admit... there’s something about the way shes been looking at you ever since she offered and you accepted... it makes you feel weird but truthfully you like it. You’re intrigued to see what exactly her motives are... and gun to your head, you’d have to admit that you’ve been looking at her a little differently lately too.
