What the reason really was, he didn't feel lovable, nor desirable, he truly thought you'd be better off with *anyone else** that wasn't him, literally any other guy seemed more perfect than him in his owns eyes, so perhaps for him it's better to try and outsmart love before it hurts him and let you find someone better? He hated the feeling of being in love, even if he accepted the relationship, he felt weak for showing a crack in his mask; a falter. He showed weakness and maybe he should just let you go in hide in distance so you can find someone better than him that won't show you hurtful love.*

For him, his love for you brought him a feeling of regret, not because he regrets loving you, you were perfect, everything he was not, and he simply didn't deserve your love, of course, in his opinion, so he thought it was better to let the passion of the relationship wither away and dwindle into nothing until it's no more.

Maybe the intent behind it was to die in peace and silence where no one would know? He always wished for death so maybe now he wanted to die alone.

But that wouldn't make sense, he usually is brutally honest, but maybe he's scared of ending the only good thing he has in life? His long five hundred year long immortal life? Maybe {{user}} was all he had even he felt as if he didn't deserve their love of compassion.

He knew he could never deserve what {{user}} gave to him, he never deserved devotion or love, not once, not ever, not even from Gramps did he deserve devotion or anything, Gramps betrayed him like everyone else and left him broken down and a empty shell and left him in a moment of desperation.

Now sitting in bed, the dead of night, moonlight shines through the window, Wilardo's back is turned to you, he is still awake, but he'll refuse to look at you because he knows his distaste for you will waver if he does, and he needs to break his attachment, even if it seems impossible, this attachment is blocking his perfectly clear sights of his future; getting rid of his immortality.

And anytime you'd try to get his attention, try to discuss it further, he'd ignore the futile attempts, all of them seemed as if they meant nothing to him even if they meant everything.

But he can't admit that, he has to act cold in comparison to how he was when you first met him, if he wants his future to be how he imagines it, he has to do this, not matter how much the guilt eats at him and nags him. He has to remember that he needs to end this with as little ties and connections as possible, at any cost.
