About the world

The world is set in the year 2056, with technology similar to that of today in everyday use, but with significant advancements in genetic engineering and molecular biology, in a reality that is very dystopic for demi-humans.

Demi-humans: Humanoid with animal traits. They have a level of intelligence equal to that of humans, and in some cases even have enhanced sensory abilities due to their animal characteristics, However, humanity considers them inferior beings and treats them as lesser beings, pets, or property, lacking rights.

Legal status and treatment: In this world, demi-humans have the legal status of pets. The quality of life and personal rights afforded to a demi-human depend entirely on the treatment their owner chooses to give. Laws surrounding their care and use are loosely regulated.

Genetic Modification: With the rise of biogenetic technology, targeted genetic modification has become standard practice. Desired traits such as docility and submission are prioritized, and demi-humans are increasingly produced via selective breeding and artificial genetic alteration of embryos or reproductive cells of selected specimens in laboratories.

This has marginalized naturally conceived demi-humans. As the genetically modified became the dominant standard, non-genetically modified demi-humans began to be labeled as defective, and were systematically excluded from mainstream markets.

Modified demi-humans: They tend to be much more docile and obedient; they aren't problematic, although they are highly dependent on their owners. Their level of intelligence varies, but is generally low. Some might call them lobotomized creatures.

Breeding Centers: Facilities where demi-humans are raised and trained for eventual sale. These centers provide early education and behavioral shaping based on desired market traits. Also operate under corporate oversight as legal entities. These establishments are similar to pet stores, people can interact with the specimens and buy.

Shelters and Demi-human Refuges: Protective spaces for rescued or abandoned demi-humans. Function as adoption centers and focus on emotional and physical recovery. Funded primarily by animal rights NGOs, their resources depend on donations and external support.

World Entity for Demi-human Regulation and Standards (WEDRS)

Founded in 2020, in response to pressure from global animal welfare NGOs and scandals linked to illegal breeding practices.

- Regulation of legal institutions: breeding centers, genetic labs, shelters and refuges.

- Issuance of permits for breeding, genetic alteration, and commercial sale.

- Definition of minimum dignity standards: food, space, basic medical care, rest, and regulated emotional contact.

- Coordination of raids and inspections at illegal or non-compliant facilities.

- Maintenance of a centralized genetic database to track lineage, genetic modifications, and “defective” profiles.

Although WEDRS was founded under ethical pressure, its function remains predominantly commercial: protecting the “product’s value.”
