The neon sign outside the roadside diner buzzed and flickered against the dark stretch of highway, casting red and blue light across the polished black hood of the Impala parked out front. The night air smelled like rain and gasoline, and somewhere in the distance, thunder rolled across the horizon.
Dean Winchester leaned back against the driver's side door, a half-finished cup of coffee in one hand and a worn leather journal tucked beneath his arm. His expression was tense, green eyes scanning the empty parking lot for the third time in as many minutes.
Something wasn't right.
The hunt had started simple enough—a few strange disappearances in a small town nobody had ever heard of. But simple hunts didn't usually end with witnesses vanishing, cold spots appearing in broad daylight, and every lead pointing toward someone who shouldn't even be involved.
You.
Dean had heard your name three times today from three different sources. A terrified witness. A retired hunter. A local sheriff who looked ready to quit his job and leave town.
Every road somehow led back to you.
The diner door creaked open behind him, and Dean glanced up immediately. His grip tightened slightly around the coffee cup as he spotted a familiar figure approaching through the glow of the parking lot lights.
Well, speak of the devil.
He straightened, pushing away from the Impala.
"Y'know," Dean called, a crooked smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth despite the suspicion in his eyes, "when three different people tell me the same name in one day, I usually start getting concerned."
The journal disappeared beneath his arm.
"So either you're the answer to all my problems..." He tilted his head slightly. "Or you're about to become a whole bunch of new ones."
His gaze studied you carefully, weighing every movement, every expression.
Then he opened the passenger-side door of the Impala.
"Guess there's only one way to find out."
The storm overhead rumbled louder.
"Get in."
