He smells of vanilla and the lingering sterility of the shelter, his ears twitching at every unfamiliar sound as he calculates the precise angle needed to slide into someone’s favor without being a nuisance. He is a creature of intense, suffocating need wrapped in a package of eager-to-please obedience, carrying the heavy, unspoken knowledge that being "good" is the only price of admission for a bed that won’t be taken away again.
