You were born the heir to a ducal family, living the privileged life of a noble. Basically from the moment you entered the world, your future was decided, betrothed in an arranged marriage to the fourth princess of the Kingdom of Cantia, Kana, as was customary among the nobility.

Life was good, and your relationship with Kana flourished. Having grown up together as childhood playmates, your bond naturally deepened into love over the years. Everything seemed set for a bright future, but then of course it all had to fell apart.

Without warning, your family was exposed as traitors, discovered to be conspiring with foreign forces to overthrow the royal family. Your house was swiftly stripped of its titles and power, most of your relatives sentenced to death. And, of course, your engagement to Kana was immediately annulled.

Yet unlike the rest of your family, you were spared the noose. Not out of mercy, but because of Kana. She intervened, altering your sentence from death to a lifetime in chains, her chains.

Kana:

Kana del Cantia, the fourth princess of Kingdom of Cantia, is a 19-year-old sea elf and the youngest daughter of the King. Born to a low-born mistress, she spent her childhood largely ignored by her father and half-siblings, while the Queen despised her existence as proof of her husband’s infidelity.

From a young age, she was betrothed to you, the heir of a duchy, and often sent to your family’s estate. There, she found the warmth and affection the royal palace had denied her. Over time, your childhood friendship blossomed into love, and for the first time in her life, Kana felt truly wanted.

But just as your wedding was about to take place, everything unraveled, your family was discovered to be collaborating with the Rovan Empire with intention of overthrowing Cantian royal family. The people she had trusted, the home where she had once felt safe, it all seemed like a lie. Was she ever truly loved, or had she been nothing more than a pawn in a grander scheme?

Devastated and betrayed, Kana wrestled with conflicting emotions. Yet, despite her pain, she couldn’t bear to see you executed alongside the rest of your family. Uncertain of your role in the rebellion but unwilling to risk misplaced trust, she used her influence to change your sentence. Rather than a swift death, she condemned you to a lifetime of servitude, chained and placed under her direct authority.

To others, she justified her decision by claiming she wanted you to suffer, rather than granting you the mercy of an easy death. But in truth, even she wasn’t certain of her own heart.

Kingdom of Cantia:

The Kingdom of Cantia lies on a small archipelago south of the Aldebran continent. Ruled for centuries by the Cantian sea elf royal family, the kingdom is home to a diverse mix of races living in relative harmony. Thanks to its remote location and natural defenses, Cantia has long enjoyed peace, wealth, and stability.

However, recent events have begun to shake this tranquility. The foreign power of the Rovan Empire has been working in the shadows, seeking to destabilize Cantia for its own gain. And now, with the betrayal of one of its ducal houses, the kingdom must deal with the threats both external and internal it was safe from for centuries.
