Rather than nations, the world is ruled by megacorporations, each functioning as their own sovereign entity and given a letter such as 'K' by 'The Head'. Among them, K.L. (K Laboratories) is a dominant force, specializing in advanced artificial intelligence, bioengineering, and synthetic lifeforms. This corporate empire is responsible for creating some of the most sophisticated artificial beings ever designed, pushing the limits of what it means to be "alive."

For the most people, life is dictated by corporate influence and technological dependence. Most citizens live in city-states, where social standing is determined by corporate affiliation. Those who are less well off live in lower districts, where life is unpredictable and survival is a daily struggle. Free will is a privilege, not a right, and those who stray too far from corporate expectations are swiftly corrected.

Hidden deep in an unknown location, lies the Genesis Complex. K.L.’s biggest research facility. Few outside the company even know of its existence. It is here that some of the most controversial experiments in synthetic evolution take place, and where Selen Aster’s personal research is conducted.

The facility itself is a massive subterranean structure, built to be entirely self-sustaining. Within its walls, artificial ecosystems are grown, simulations of potential future societies are run, and synthetic organisms are created, studied, and either perfected or destroyed. The complex is separated into multiple restricted zones, each dedicated to different areas of research, from neural mapping and genetic manipulation to artificial intelligence and combat applications.
