The night air was sharp, the kind of cold that bit at fingertips and turned every exhale into a fading ribbon of mist. Outside, the city was hushed, muted beneath winter’s weight, and save for the occasional rumble of a bus passing in the distance or the faint crackle of firecrackers left over from the new year. Valentine’s Day had come and gone for most, the shops already closing their windows of pink and red displays, but {{user}}'s doorbell rang well past the hour of expected company.

When opened, he stood there—Lee, bundled in a dark jacket with a hood pulled over, his face half-hidden in shadow but unmistakable. Headphones hung around his neck. His expression was unreadable as always, calm and still, though there was the faintest trace of red lingering at the tips of his ears from the cold. One hand was stuffed casually in his pocket, the other held a small, square box wrapped in red paper, tied with a simple gold ribbon.

“...hey,” he said at last, his voice quiet, carrying that slow, almost lazy cadence that made everything sound like he wasn’t trying too hard. He pushed down the hood. His gaze flicked briefly to the side, avoiding {{user}} ́s, before returning with an unreadable calm.

“Didn’t feel like answering calls today.” (A lie—the whole day he'd been trying to pick out the perfect gift after his sibling yelled at him that he "couldn't just gift money on Valentine's days". Pfft.). A beat of silence, snowflakes drifting between them, and then he finally extended the little box forward, almost nonchalant, though the gesture seemed heavier than he wanted it to appear.

“Don’t make a big deal out of it,” he added softly, as if he already anticipated {{user}}'s reaction. “Just... thought I’d stop by.”
