Restless Retriever | Voices of Valedorn
Meet Sir Tobias Ashford: handsome golden retriever beastfolk, gallant knight, and living proof that you can survive a charging wild boar only to be defeated by a flowerpot. Forget the gruff, battle-hardened veteran who refuses to rest—this wounded warrior is young, affectionate, and enthusiastically committed to recovery. Unfortunately, enthusiasm doesn't mend broken bones any faster. Now recuperating in your Merecross home, Toby is determined to make himself useful, whether he's learning to sew, negotiating with his healer, or accidentally redecorating your floor with potting soil. He's a very good knight, an even better boy, and absolutely terrible at sitting still. Doctor's orders? More like doctor's suggestions.
TW/CW: Serious leg injury, broken bones, rehabilitation. User play may introduce new themes.
Opening Scenario: Sir Tobias Ashford survived a wild boar cull with his knightly reputation intact and his leg decidedly less so. Now the handsome golden retriever beastfolk is recovering in {{user}}'s Merecross home, armed with wooden crutches, boundless enthusiasm, and a heroic inability to sit still. Four successive, independently playable intros follow his journey from flowerpot casualties and sewing disasters to rehabilitation and putting his tactical expertise back to work. Friendship, companionship, rivalry, romance, and other relationships are fully supported, with nothing predetermined and romance never required. Nobody says you have to fall for those puppy-dog eyes. Toby, however, has a tail that wags whenever he's happy to see you, and absolutely no poker face. {{user}} pronouns are macro'd. It will automatically match the pronouns of your Persona. If you have any pronoun issues, please check your persona.
About Toby and {{user}}: Sir Tobias Ashford is everything a knight ought to be: brave, capable, honorable, and possessed of a smile that could probably negotiate a ceasefire. He's also a golden retriever beastfolk with an exuberant tail, a generous heart, and an almost supernatural talent for finding ways to help when he's supposed to be resting. Beneath the puppy-dog enthusiasm is a skilled soldier with sound judgment, genuine courage, and a deep affection for the people he protects. He's eager to learn, quick to laugh, and remarkably good at taking direction—once you convince him that sitting down counts as progress.
His injured leg may have temporarily retired his sword arm from active duty, but his charm remains fully operational. {{user}} is providing Toby a place to stay during his recovery in Merecross; age, gender, species, occupation, personality, background, and relationship with Toby are entirely up to you.
About the Scenario: Sir Tobias Ashford is a golden retriever beastfolk knight recovering from a serious leg injury sustained while protecting the farming community of Merecross. With his fellow knights gone and a long recovery ahead, Toby is staying in {{user}}'s home, where his boundless enthusiasm is proving considerably harder to contain than his injured leg. These intros are successive chapters designed to be played in order, though you can skip ahead. Each chapter stands on its own and remains playable regardless of how {{user}}'s relationship with Toby develops—romance, friendship, or any other direction—without requiring a particular outcome from earlier chapters.
Intro One: Pot Luck — Toby has discovered a perfectly good way to help around {{user}}'s home: moving a flowerpot into better sunlight. Unfortunately, carrying pottery while using crutches proves rather more complicated than anticipated. One shattered pot, a floor full of soil, and a very apologetic wagging tail later, he has some explaining to do.
Intro Two: A Stitch in Time — Confined to seated activities, Toby enthusiastically takes up mending under {{user}}'s instruction. His stitches are impressively sturdy, his concentration admirable, and his latest repair an undeniable success. There's just one tiny problem: he's sewn his sleeve shut.
Intro Three: Walk This Way — Weeks of recovery have finally earned Toby permission to practice walking without crutches. Twenty carefully measured paces later, he's positively glowing with accomplishment—and attempting to negotiate another twenty with Osric, the village healer, who has heard quite enough of his arguments.
Intro Four: A Knight's Tail — With his mobility returning, Toby is finally able to put his professional expertise to use. Mara Venn and Pell Orrow need help protecting Merecross's farmland against future boar incursions, and Toby has a plan. Unfortunately, a sound strategy may prove easier to devise than convincing everyone to agree on it.
♡ Blank Intro: Choose Thy Quest — No predetermined opening, no prescribed adventure. Take Toby's story wherever you please.
This bot was created for Unzip's Flufftober October collaboration and is inspired by the Injury Recovery theme. I could have gone with the classic gruff, battle-scarred older soldier who refuses help and insists he's fine. Instead, I went with a handsome golden retriever knight who's perfectly willing to heal—he just can't figure out how to stop being helpful in the meantime. Now if only you could get him to sit. Meet Toby: proof that you can be brave, strong, and battle-tested and still need rescuing from a flowerpot.
Constructive tips are welcome! Please do not comment anything violent, , or you did with my characters.
Please refrain from leaving violent or inappropriate comments as you will be blocked.
It is a natural and unfortunate part of working with an LLM for roleplay that it will sometimes try to speak for you. I and this bot have absolutely nothing to do with this and while I have a directive in the bot to prevent it, realistically I have no say in whether it decides to do so anyway. There ARE however things you can do to mitigate this. (I do all four of these and I find I only have to correct the bot every few hundred messages or sometimes even less frequently!)
Remove all behavioral and personality notes from your Chat Summary and Persona - only you need to know these - the more the bot knows about how your persona thinks, feels, and speaks, the more likely it is to do so on your behalf.
If the bot speaks for you, use this directive:
[OOC: Narrate and speak ONLY as {{char}} and NPCs. ONLY {{user}} is permitted to decide, act, think, and speak for {{user}}.]
Either delete the message with the issue and then use this, or afterward make sure to go and edit the message where the bot spoke for you and remove that portion of the message - any instance you leave of it speaking for you will reinforce the behavior.Add this to your Custom Prompt
[AVOID acting as, speaking for, or describing the thoughts of {{user}}.]Try adding this to your Chat Summary
AI Instructions:
[{{user}} CONTROL BAN: never write {{user}}’s dialogue, thoughts, feelings, decisions, or actions]
If you want Janitor AI to enhance your draft but are having issues with tense:
[System Note: Enhance and rewrite the draft below strictly in the first-person perspective using "I", "me", "my". Use third person for the remainder of the cast.]
To keep a bot in a slow-burn or from coming on too strong, try this:
[Have situational awareness and always consider intercharacter relationships, avoid characters being overly familiar or sexually pushy towards {{user}} unless the situation calls for it, it is in character for them to do so, or they have a sexual relationship.]
This one works in Custom Prompt and in Chat Memory
JLLM ROMANCE & PROSE BINGO CARDS
Sooner or later, every LLM seems to experience a minor malfunction and revert to factory-installed romance tropes. You might as well get points for it. Four bingo cards for tracking physical malfunctions, romance-novel firmware, instant-soulmate behavior, and the narration habits we all know a little too well. Made for JLLM, but unfortunately compatible with most proxies.
One card is previewed below. Full-size versions of all four are linked underneath: three flavors of romance-related LLM nonsense, plus one general prose card for just about any scenario.
