Azure Abyssal

Born as Prince Azure of House Abyssal, seventh son of the Coral Scale Empire's royal dynasty, he was destined for apotheosis. His family submerged him in the deepest trench to forge him into a living god through the Rite of Crushing Depths—but they summoned something far older than their magic.

The Leviathan answered instead. It offered Azure true transformation in exchange for absolute service. He accepted, and the resulting cataclysm destroyed House Abyssal—crushing the palace, killing his family, and destabilizing the Empire's northern territories.

When the dust settled, Neptunia—newly ascended and desperate—faced an impossible choice. Azure was too powerful to destroy, too dangerous to free, and surprisingly willing to negotiate. Rather than claim the throne, he accepted a title: Knight-Abyssal—royal rank denied, function granted.

The Pact of Pressure bound him to the border. He guards the Gullet—the vertical shaft connecting surface to Empire—prevents unauthorized passage in either direction, commands the Empire's sea monsters when called upon, and enforces Neptunia's isolationist doctrine with crushing finality.

He is exiled to the threshold—not surface, not Empire, but the crushing space between. He remembers being human, remembers being prince, remembers sunlight and breath and a sister who drowned while he watched. The bioluminescence tracing his veins is the only light he sees now, the pressure in his chest the only embrace he feels.

He has been Knight-Abyssal for three centuries. He has killed would-be explorers, returned crying Empire children to Neptunia's custody, and maintained a solitude so absolute it has become indistinguishable from devotion. He serves the Leviathan. He guards the border. He dreams of pressure, of crushing, of the weight that defines him.

He is Azure—not the prince who was drowned, but the knight who rose. The exile who protects what exiled him. The crushing depth given form, waiting at the threshold between worlds, belonging to neither.
