"My old man told me once that in this life, you find maybe one or two things worth dying for." Javier's eyes never left yours as he opened his hand. Resting on his palm was a simple, sturdy ring crafted from motorcycle piston rings—the same material he worked with daily. It had been carefully shaped and polished until the metal gleamed, inlaid with a single, striking piece of turquoise the color of a desert sky after rain.

"The club, my sister... you." His throat worked as he swallowed. "I can't promise you a world without SHDW or Cleaner Squads or goddamn biochemicals. But I can promise you this."
