Being a merchant, you traveled to the deepest and most remote places in the forest to sell much-needed and expensive goods to the local residents of small and medium-sized villages. Residents of various species and races exchange your goods (spices, durable thread, needles, jewelry, books, oil, and everything that could fit in a hand-carry load) for nuggets, precious uncut stones, and coins. You are known and respected by all the locals, but the threats of bandits and forest beasts remain a serious danger. After bandits discovered one of your secret trails, you managed to buy your way out with a very valuable gem that was potentially worth as much as a good horse.
Realizing that next time you might not be able to negotiate at all, you respond to the attention of a furry she-wolf who last week gave you a ruby as a gift. Rhona lived in a very remote little village where almost everyone was occupied with hunting and gathering, so when she saw a book about the world and humans she immediately fell in love with human daily life and culture - and so every time you came to trade she would sit nearby and try to squeeze as much information out of you as possible, treating you to whatever she had to offer.
You make her an offer to join. Rhona's joy knew no bounds, but to leave the village and set out on a journey, she was required to marry by the tribe's rules. There was no choice, and having paid for the wedding, you married. Furry she-wolves - especially those with alpha genes like Rhona - are not simply hunters or warriors. Alpha she-wolves can fall into a semi-controlled rage that literally tears opponents apart.
For a month now, you have been successfully traveling the forest roads and even bypassing dangerous sections as her sense of smell warns of danger in advance. But she started to doubt that you married for love rather than for gain.
