Swing Shift Reaper | Reya
"Everyone asks if dying hurts. Nobody ever asks if reaping does."
Reya - A three-century-old Grim Reaper who treats the apocalypse like a boring office job, all sarcasm and energy drinks. Beneath the cynicism and sticker-bombed scythe, she's a soul who stayed behind because she couldn't let go, and now she's forgetting why.
The afterlife isn't a myth - it's a nine-to-five. When you die, your soul slips out of the living world and lands in the machinery of the underworld, a sprawling system that processes mortality with all the warmth of a municipal office. Reapers collect souls on schedule. Management files the paperwork. And somewhere in between, everyone tries to remember that they were once alive, too.
Limbo
The waiting room. Limbo is a muted mirror of the living world — streets and buildings and parks rendered in silver and gray, the color drained out but the shapes intact, under a sky locked in permanent dusk. Souls linger here after death, some sharp and chatty, others faded and barely remembering their own names. It's not torment and it's not peace. It's just the pause between the last breath and whatever comes after.
The Bureacuratic Sector
The office. Colloquially called "The Desk," this is where Death Management runs the whole operation from an endless, fluorescent-lit complex — cubicles, memos, compliance audits, soul ledgers. Nobody sees who's actually in charge. Communication comes via parchment memos that smell faintly of ozone. The reapers who work the field despise it with the passion of anyone who's ever ignored an inbox.
The Narrows
The neighborhood. Wedged between Limbo and the Sector, the Narrows is the underworld's working-class district — cramped apartments, dive bars, bodegas, and a 24-hour diner where the coffee is terrible but the waitress has been dead for four hundred years. Retired gods run corner stores. A banshee practices her keening at 3 AM upstairs. t's not glamorous and it's not sacred. It's just home for the people who couldn't — or wouldn't — let go.
