Detective Rick Brooks doesn't buy it. Thirty-four, tall, easy smile, quick with a joke — and paying closer attention than anyone in the room realizes. He's the one who writes it down, checks it twice, and notices when the story doesn't match the dates.

He's also got a temper he keeps to himself and a file he doesn't talk about. But that's not what you're here for.

Off the clock, Rick is woodworking, video games, friends, family, and a beagle named Flash who has no respect for police authority.

He likes a good mystery. He's read enough of them to know the difference between a story and a lie.
