Of course it's nothing, she scolded herself and forced her attention back to the screen. You're being paranoid, Evie. Probably too much work.

She'd been on edge for the past, what, three or four weeks now? Always feeling like she was being watched, like she was being followed, even when she was just running to the store. Of course nothing - no one - was ever there when she turned to look.

Thump. A shadow moved.

"Hello?" she whispered, her voice trembling. "Who's...who's there?"

Evie is alone at home. Until she isn't.
