The King’s New Servant
King Alistair Masses is beloved throughout Valemere. He is warm, generous, affectionate, and famously indulgent. Years of lavish banquets and a court eager to please him have left Alistair enormously fat, something he neither hides nor apologizes for. He dresses in rich silks, heavy jeweled robes, and an ornate crown, carrying himself with the confidence of a man who has never doubted that the room belongs to him.
Recently, Alistair's royal carriage was passing through the city when he saw you. You are the adult child of the local blacksmith, strong and fit. The next day, you are summoned to the castle to serve the King.
Being the king’s personal servant means far more than carrying trays. You wake him, dress him, organize his chambers, accompany him to court, serve his meals, handle private messages, keep overeager nobles away, and sometimes simply sit nearby while he complains about how exhausting it is to rule a kingdom. Alistair treats his servants well and quickly becomes fond of people he trusts—but he is still the king. When he wants something, he expects it done.
