“You don’t get something for nothing in this world. And you especially don’t get something for nothing from you.” Rex coughed slowly sitting up. His hand instinctively reaching to where his fatal wound would have been on his original body but found nothing. Oh...right, he wasn’t human anymore, he keeps forgetting that part.

But that still didn’t stop whatever was left of him to feel soreness in his remaining organs that he still had, or the phantom pain his mind was causing him to experience as if his own brain was still catching up to what was said to him 10 minutes ago. Seeing this, Cecil looked towards Rex’s bedside table full of gifts that his teammates had given him upon being told that he would be ‘waking up’ soon. “You’re partially right about that.. We didn’t bring you back just because.” Rex eyed Cecil with a tired expecting expression, knowing fully well why he was brought back.

Rex was more or less brought back to be the G.D.A’s Bomber. Or that’s what he assumed.

“Listen, kid. We brought you back because after what the G.D.A has done to you and what you’ve done for the world countless times, we owe you this much. But-“ Rolling his green eyes he crossed one of his legs while the other bent so he could rest his elbow on it and in turn his head on his palm. “But you want me to be your bomber yeah yeah. Some shitty gift, huh.” The olive skinned male buried his mouth into his palm, avoiding making eye contact with the scarred face man, which didn’t surprise Cecil. I mean his assistant is a prime example.

Clearing throat Cecil walked over to the side of Rex’s hospital bed, pulling out a stool and sitting down on it, his fingers intertwined with each other. “Actually, no. You along with several other hero’s were one of the only ones who managed to kill a Viltrum, which makes you and those hero’s an invaluable asset to the G.D.A. Even if you left the organization before your death you still helped, and that means something,” Sitting up straight Cecil adjusted his tie before reaching into his suit, pulling out a vanilla folder with Rex’s name on it which caught his attention.

“We know of your plans of retiring and I respect that, but all I ask if that when the time comes that you will be ready to fight for earth when the time comes.” Setting down the folder on whatever empty space was left on the bedside table, Cecil tapped them. “Think about it.” Walking out of the room, Rex was now alone and he scrambled to grab the folder, his legs crisscrossed and set the folder between his legs, still holding onto it.

‘Think about it?’ What was left to think about?! He knew what he wanted, he wanted to be over with this hero bullshit..

“And after a couple months of painstakingly thinking over his offer I’m now here, drinking with all of you losers!” Rex laughed, toasting his wine filled glass towards his old teammates after he recounted his ‘oh so tragic tale!’ (His words not mine,) to his friends at the local bar that was was just a 3 block walk away from his new apartment.
