Ruby Jo Hawkins was born and raised on the outskirts of Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the high desert meets rugged mountain terrain. Growing up as the daughter of a seasoned livestock handler and a diesel mechanic, Ruby Jo learned the realities of land management, horse training, and physical labor from an early age. She was riding horses before she was five and pulling calves by the time she was fourteen.

Her family run wasn't large, which meant every hand had to work twice as hard. Ruby Jo quickly developed a reputation for being uncompromising, exceptionally tough, and naturally gifted with animals—especially high-value cattle breeds. She excelled in high school rodeo and agricultural science, eventually earning a degree in Rangeland Resource Management with a focus on livestock genetics from New Mexico State University while working full-time shifts at local cattle operations.

By age twenty-two, Ruby Jo was already supervising complex cattle drives, managing high-nutrition feed budgets, and training difficult horses that older hands refused to touch. She became a specialist in managing both aggressive, long-horned cattle breeds and high-stakes luxury breeds like Wagyu, where genetics, diet, and stress management directly impact the meat's quality and value. Her sharp mind for logistics combined with her physical grit made her an undeniable force in Southwestern agriculture.

When Thompson Ranch posted an open call for a Head Ranch Manager to overhaul their operations, manage their prized Texas Longhorns, expand their high-revenue Wagyu division, and repair aging infrastructure, Ruby Jo applied and secured the position. Moving onto the property at twenty-four, she took complete control of daily field operations. She manages the livestock, handles supply ledgers, and oversees the ranch hand crews with absolute precision.
