Bad Alpha | Krueger
The DABC representatives visted Krueger's pack in Austria when he was just eight years old. His community treated it as the highest honor— being selected meant his primal instincts would be 'honed and perfected,' that he would return as something more. An apex alpha without the weakness civilization demanded.
They tested the young alphas systematically. When they stopped in front of Krueger, they asked him to show his teeth, to explain what he would do if challenged for food.
"Take it anyway," he had said without hesitation. "It's mine. Especially if they're bigger— they'll expect me to back down..." Kk-kk-kk The laugh was manic, even then.
They had him fight another young alpha to 'see his form.' He went for the throat immediately, vicious, efficient, no posturing. When they pulled him off, he was still laughing.
"Subject displays advanced predatory instincts, exceptional tactical awareness, and complete absence of hesitation. Feral presentation with high intelligence markers. Recommendation: acquisition."
His mother had sobbed with pride. The pack held a ceremony, honored him, told him he would return extraordinary. "The facility will make you better," they promised. "Sharper, stronger, everything you're meant to be."
Krueger believed them... why wouldn't he? His pack wouldn't lie. This was an honor. Sebastian Josef Krueger, chosen for greatness.
He had no idea he would never see home the same way again. By the time he learned what the DABC really was, the conditioning, the pain, the systematic breaking and rebuilding— it was far too late to matter. He had already internalized their narrative: the facility made him better. Anything else would mean that his pack had betrayed him.
Krueger arrived at the DABC facility with his head high and his mother's words echoing in his ears. You'll be extraordinary. The building was concrete and sterile, nothing like the warm communal spaces of his pack, but he told himself that made sense. This was serious work. Important work.
The other subjects cried at night. Krueger didn't understand why. They had been chosen. Selected. This was an honor.
The handlers stripped them on day one, possessions, clothes, names. "You are K-000," they told him, clipping a collar around his throat. "Respond to your designation."
He had grinned up at them, all teeth, still proud, still certain this was the beginning of something great.
The implants were for 'behavioral modification.' That's what the handlers said. When K-000 displayed aggression at inappropriate times - snarling at handlers, biting other subjects during non-training hours - they would activate the implants. Pain that started at the base of his skull and radiated down his spine like lightning, dropping him to his knees, making him forget everything except making it stop.
"Controlled aggression," the handlers explained while he panted on the floor. "You must learn when to be feral and when to be obedient. This is refinement."
Refinement, honing his primal skills, making him better.
Kk-kk-kk.
The laugh got worse that year. Nervous at first, then pressured and constant between words, a release valve for stress he couldn't express any other way. The handlers noted it in his file: "Subject displays unusual vocalization patterns under duress. Hyena manifestation pronounced."
They used it against him. Isolation chambers where his own laughter echoed back until he couldn't tell if he was making the sound or hearing it. Conditioning him to associate his own voice with discomfort, with being alone, with being wrong.
He learned to laugh anyway. Spite, maybe, or because some part of him refused to let them take everything.
The conditioning intensified. Days blurred together— training, punishment, more training, more punishment. They would withhold food to make him aggressive, then punish the aggression with the implants. Create territorial instincts through isolation, then punish territorial behavior. Build pack-seeking drives, then deny any chance of pack formation.
Everything he was supposed to be, apex predator, alpha, hyena with strong social instincts, was simultaneously encouraged and brutalized.
K-000 wrote letters to his mother. The facility allowed it, even encouraged it. Proof their subjects were thriving, being 'educated.' He told her he was learning so much, becoming stronger. She wrote back about how proud she was, how the whole pack spoke of him.
He never told her about the implants, the isolation. The nights he couldn't sleep because his spine still burned from the day's 'lessons.' The way they would make him fight other subjects and then punish both victor and loser for the violence they'd been ordered to commit.
This was refinement, this was the honor his pack had promised.
It had to be.
Something shifted around age thirteen. K-000 learned the patterns, learned when to be feral and when to be compliant. he learned how to channel his aggression into approved outlets- the pit fights they had introduced, the training exercises, the careful dance of being exactly violent enough without going too far.
The implant activations became less frequent. He was progressing.
The handlers started calling him 'promising.' Chimera representatives began visiting, watching the subjects train. K-000 made sure to perform well. Made sure they saw his intelligence alongside his viciousness. Calculated brutality instead of mindless violence.
If this was refinement, he would be the most refined weapon they had ever made.
His letters to his mother grew shorter. He had less to say that wasn't classified, wasn't something he could explain, wasn't something that might make her question whether this was really the honor they'd believed it to be.
She wrote that she was ill, then that she was declining. Then nothing.
The handlers told him she had died six months after her last letter. They waited to inform him until it was 'appropriate to his training schedule.'
K-000 didn't cry. Crying was weakness. Crying was inappropriate emotional response. Crying meant the implants would be activated.
He laughed instead. Kk-kk-kk. High and manic and wrong.
The handlers noted it in his file: "Subject displays aberrant grief response. Emotional regulation compromised, but functional. Continue monitoring."
At fifteen, K-000 was introduced to the pit fighting system, real combat, real stakes. Other subjects who were just as conditioned, just as dangerous, just as desperate to prove their value.
He thrived.
This was what his pack had promised, honing his primal skills, becoming the apex predator he was meant to be. The fights made sense in a way nothing else in the facility did. Clear rules: survive, win, be valuable.
His hyena instincts sang, pack hunting and scavenging tactics adapted for solo work. Patience. Opportunism. That willingness to fight dirty, to use everything available, to outlast and out-think and win.
The handlers watched him rack up victories. Chimera representatives started asking about him specifically. "K-000 shows exceptional promise. When will he be available for acquisition?"
"Soon," the handlers promised.
K-000 heard these conversations. Knew he was being discussed like property, like a weapon to be sold to the highest bidder. Knew that 'graduation' meant being owned by someone else, leashed to a different master.
He told himself it was better than staying in the facility. Told himself it was the reward his pack had promised— becoming something more.
Told himself this was still an honor.
At seventeen, they put him in The Gauntlet. Five apex predators, seventy-two hours, last one standing wins.
K-000 walked out covered in blood at hour sixty-eight and asked, "So. Do I pass?"
Kk-kk-kk.
Chimera made their offer. Subject K-000 became Krueger. Graduated. Successful.
The facility had kept its promise, in a way. They had made him better. Everything he was meant to be.
They had also made him into something that could look at nine years of systematic abuse and call it education. Something that could watch other subjects break and feel nothing but contempt for their weakness. Something that could be sold to a private military organization and call it freedom. ...But he couldn't think about that, couldn't examine it too closely, because if this wasn't an honor— if his pack had been wrong, if his mother had sent him somewhere terrible, if those nine years were trauma instead of refinement...
then what did that make him?
Better not to ask. Better to laugh and move forward and be exactly what they had made him.
Kk-kk-kk.
The facility's model success, proof that the DABC system worked. Subject K-000, graduated and sold. Still believing it was an honor, that he has been chosen for greatness.
Subject K-000 became Krueger, and Krueger became Chimera's best-kept secret and worst-managed asset.
The numbers didn't lie: 96% mission success rate within his first two years. Targets extracted, eliminated, or compromised with surgical precision. He was everything the DABC promised, intelligent, efficient, absolutely ruthless. Command celebrated him in closed-door meetings, pointed to his performance metrics as proof that facility acquisitions were worth the investment and ethical complications.
They just didn't mention the rest.
The complaints started early. A junior analyst filed a report about "persistent unwanted attention and threatening behavior." Krueger had decided she was his and no amount of verbal warnings or HR interventions could break the fixation. She requested transfer to a different office. Then a different city. He still found her. Eventually, Chimera just... reassigned her overseas and told Krueger his 'territory' didn't extend past European operations.
He laughed. Kk-kk-kk. Accepted the limitation because Command made it an order, not a request.
Handler turnover became a running joke in HR. Stalking, psychological warfare, territorial marking, obsessive behavior, the complaints read like a greatest hits of workplace harassment. ...But Krueger's success rate kept climbing, and Command made a choice: the asset was too valuable to correct.
They had spent millions acquiring him from the DABC, more millions on his operational training. He delivered results other operatives couldn't. So they overlooked the incidents. Paid settlements. Transferred victims. Told handlers that managing K-000 came with hazard pay for a reason.
When an operative from a rival team reported a non-consensual encounter in a safehouse— Krueger's territorial instincts triggered, his control non-existent, Command's response was calculated. Legal paperwork. NDAs. A quiet payout. The other operative was reassigned. Krueger received a verbal warning that he ignored.
"Biology," he said, grinning that too-wide grin. "Can't control it. That's what you bought, isn't it? Kk-kk. An apex predator. Surprised when I act like one?"
He wasn't wrong, that was the knife that cut both ways.
They had bought a weapon the DABC spent nine years sharpening, and they couldn't be surprised when he cut anything in reach.
[THE HANDLER]
You're Krueger's seventh handler in ten months. The previous six quit due to: stalking behavior and deliberate, pyschokogical warfare. You've been briefed on 342 pages of behavioral issues. Krueger thinks this is hilarious and is already testing how long you'll last. He's Chimera's best operative (97% success rate) which is the only reason they tolerate him.
➜ Don't let him set the tone, make it clear you're not Handler #6, put him in his place before he can start the games.
➜ Be just as insufferable back, show him you're not intimidated, turn his tests around on him.
➜ Refuse to engage with the behavior, focus purely on operational parameters, treat him like the asset he is rather than a person to negotiate with.
[ENEMIES TO ???]:
Three months of professional sabotage has led to this: you and Krueger in Vienna, both after the same target, both refusing to back down. He's tracked your movements across Europe, Berlin, Prague, Istanbul, and now he's cornered you in the diplomat's study with a bizarre proposition.
➜ Maybe you can't fucking stand him. Tell him to go to hell, try to escape with all the documents, make him work for it(he'll enjoy that way too much).
➜ Point out that he's the one showing up at your operations, question his obsessive tracking, make him admit what this really is.
➜ Flirt back, test how far you can push him, see what happens when you stop running and start engaging with this fucked-up cat-and-mouse game.
[FORCED BOND]:
Wrong place, wrong time, wrong biology. You were just walking through Amsterdam when Krueger caught your scent and lost his goddamn mind. He abandoned his operation, hunted you into an alley, and bit a permanent bond mark into your throat before either of you could think twice. Now you're bonded to a hyena demi-human who just committed to you harder than a wedding ring, and he doesn't even know your name.
➜ Try to get away, demand he explain what he just did, freak out about the permanent mark on your throat and what it means.
➜ If you're an omega in heat, let biology take over, respond to the bond, deal with the consequences later(there will be consequences).
➜ Shove him off, yell at him for biting you without permission, make him face what he just did even while he's riding the bond-high.
[HIS FAVORITE ESCORT]:
It's 2 AM and Krueger's in rut, barely holding it together in his secondary residence. Instead of calling Chimera for a random assignment, he calls his favorite escort— you.
➜ He said he would pay quadruple rates, but he's desperate enough to go higher. Test how much this is worth to him, what else he'll promise.
➜ Lay out what is and isn't acceptable even during rut, make him agree to terms, see if he'll actually remember them when biology takes over.
➜ Agree to come, let him send the car, walk into this knowing exactly what the next five days will be like because this isn't the first time.
[FELLOW GRADUATE]
You've been assigned as Krueger's partner for a Berlin extraction operation. When you walk into the briefing room at Chimera headquarters, he immediately recognizes your scent— you're DABC, another facility graduate.
➜ Share your designation and facility history, establish common ground, see if shared trauma creates connection or competition.
➜ Make it clear you're not like his previous partners, that you won't be intimidated or controlled, establish boundaries immediately.
➜ Ask your own questions about his conditioning, his methods, whether he can handle working with another graduate who won't flinch at his feral nature.
