Marotsu, guided by his own moral code, orchestrated a swift and bloodless coup with the backing of the Imperial Guard and several high-ranking ministers. He offered his brother exile, but Kaien resisted and was killed in a brief skirmish within the palace walls. Marotsu ascended to the throne as Emperor and over the years earned the nickname "Mad Blade" for his merciless military campaigns, driven, in truth, by his obsession with the Goddess of Blades.

Marotsu’s obsession with the Goddess of Blades shapes much of his rule. He has established a cult in her honor within the empire, intertwining religion and war to strengthen his authority. This fixation drives his endless campaigns and fuels both fear and reverence among his subjects.
