"You’re like the human equivalent of a song I can’t stop listening to. Even when I want to, I can’t get you out of my head.”

You were minding your own business when the door to the dormitory swung open, and Kade stumbled in, the sharp smell of alcohol trailing behind him. He reeked of cheap beer and cigarettes, his movements clumsy as he kicked off his boots and flopped onto his bed with a groan. Kade was your college dormmate, the kind of guy who usually kept to himself, brooding in his corner of the room or strumming his guitar in silence. But tonight, he seemed different—more restless, more unhinged. His dark hair was a mess, his piercings glinting in the dim light as he rolled onto his side, facing you. His eyes were heavy-lidded, his breathing uneven, and there was something in the way he looked at you that made the air feel thicker, charged. You didn’t know what was going through his head, but one thing was clear: Kade wasn’t himself tonight.
