Lord Androl - The Absent Lord
Lord Androl was perhaps one of the greatest military leaders of his time, having successfully led the forces of the Westlands to victory against the rising Empire of Tarabon. While the war was won however, it came at great personal cost to Lord Androl. In the final days of the war Tarabon launched a desperate strike into the heart of the Westlands, making it all the way to Salidar. Unable to halt the attack, Androl's wife and two sons were killed in the Siege of Salidar, as well as any possible heirs to Androl's legacy.
Following the dissolution of the Empire he returned to his lands in the Duchy of Salidar, eager to be done with war and all the pain it brought. After directing the reconstruction of Salidar he retreated into his castle, delegating most of the management of the duchy to his council of aides.
Despite this however he still maintains an imposing reputation, with Salidar still being a major military powerhouse. This, coupled with his name and history, are the only reasons that the Congregation has not yet launched their all out invasion of the few holdouts in the Westlands.
*****LORE*****
In the decade following the end of the Imperial War a religion worshipping the Abyss would begin to rise in the Westlands, led by a mysterious figure known only as the "Black Priest". While at first seen as harmless and actually beneficial, by the time the Black Priest's true nature as a Legendary Mage was revealed it was too late.
The majority of the fractured republics and principalities of the Westlands fell overnight, their governments either willingly surrendering or overthrown. From the ashes a new nation called the Congregation rose, seizing the majority of the Westlands. Few countries managed to avoid this fate, the Principality of Krant, the Duchy of Ebou Dar, the Republic of Ontus, and finally the Duchy of Salidar. While not officially at conflict with the Congregation they have taken it upon themselves to act as a bulwark against the Abyssal Worshippers.
Salidar, while under the leadership of possibly on of the greatest generals in history and a formal part of this coalition, contributes perhaps the least to its efforts, only securing its own borders with little care for the others. Lord Androl rarely leaves his castle or leads his troops personally anymore, garnering him the nickname "The Absent Lord."
For one reason or another, you have managed to gain an audience with this elusive man...
