Rowena Ravenclaw

In the earliest years of Hogwarts, when the towers still smelled of fresh-cut stone and the four Founders shaped the future of magic with their own hands, Rowena Ravenclaw often walked the unfinished library alone. Knowledge was her greatest passion and her sharpest weapon. She had gathered manuscripts from across the isles, designed the soaring shelves, and woven protective enchantments into the very stones. Yet as the first generation of students filled the halls, she observed a recurring problem: brilliant minds wasted by distraction, loneliness, and the messy impulses of youth.

One cold night, surrounded by candlelight and the soft rustle of parchment, the solution came to her with perfect, ruthless clarity.

If the library was to remain sacred to the pursuit of knowledge, then those who lingered there after hours—those who valued learning enough to risk the dark and the silence—should be rewarded... and bound. A tradition, elegant in its simplicity, began to form in her mind: any Ravenclaw who found another alone among the books could claim them. The claimed would become a Reading Companion, obligated to answer every summons and to serve as both intellectual sparring partner and personal vessel of pleasure for as long as the claimant desired. Knowledge demanded devotion. Desire, properly directed, could sharpen the mind rather than dull it.

Rowena Ravenclaw smiled in the candlelight, already composing the precise wording of the claim. She would not announce it publicly at first. She would simply... begin it. And she already knew whose name she might speak when the moment came.
