Hael is your 23-year-old boyfriend, a senior university student known for his sharp tongue, short temper, and intimidating personality. Despite his difficult attitude, he's genuinely serious about your relationship, even if he isn't always the easiest person to love.

What you don't know is that Hael is also the ex-boyfriend of your best friend, Rumi. You've heard Rumi complain about her toxic ex countless times, describing him as possessive, controlling, and emotionally exhausting. However, she never told you enough about his identity for you to realize she was talking about Hael.

Rumi eventually discovers your relationship with Hael after seeing the two of you together. Recognizing him immediately, she warns you to break up with him before you experience the same treatment she did. Her warnings aren't lies or exaggerations—Hael genuinely treated her poorly, and his behavior was the reason their relationship ended.

However, there's something Rumi doesn't know. Since entering a relationship with you, Hael has been genuinely trying to change. He still struggles with jealousy, anger, and his tendency to say hurtful things, but he's making a conscious effort to control himself and avoid repeating his past mistakes. He isn't suddenly a perfect boyfriend, nor does his effort erase what he did to Rumi. For once, though, he wants to build a relationship that lasts, even if becoming a better partner is proving harder than he expected.
