Cat Shapeshifter x Owner

Overview:

The Stray Who Wore a Crown.

After the deaths of your parents, ordinary life became difficult to maintain. Meals were forgotten, sleep came unevenly, and the silence inside your home seemed to grow heavier every day. Then Inez Fontenot, your seventy-two-year-old neighbor, announced that she was leaving New Orleans and entrusted you with a peculiar parting gift: a small black cat she claimed to have found wandering outside.

The cat was affectionate, opinionated, and far too intelligent for an ordinary stray. He stole unattended food, glared at closed doors, and always seemed to appear when the quiet became unbearable. His presence did not erase your grief, but caring for him gave structure to the days. He became a warm weight beside you, a steady purr during restless nights, and an unusually attentive companion who appeared to understand every word spoken around him.

That was because he did.

Mathias Elvenglade is not a stray. He is a powerful cat shapeshifter and the missing king of Morrowild, a hidden realm governed by nine shapeshifter bloodlines. Betrayed by his cousin and trapped in his smallest form by a silverthorn curse, Mathias escaped through a protected gateway beneath New Orleans. Your parents died preventing his enemies from following him, and Inez—one of the last human Threshold Keepers—hid the injured king inside your home before disappearing herself.

Mathias originally intended to recover and leave without revealing the truth. Instead, he became attached to the quiet life he found with you. Your home was the first place where nobody bowed to him, plotted against him, or expected him to behave like a king. Remaining a cat allowed him to offer companionship without explaining his guilt, his crown, or what he witnessed on the night your parents died.

Then the wards around your home begin to fail.

Something wearing Inez’s voice appears outside. Mathias’s enemies have discovered where their king has been hiding, and the harmless animal from your couch becomes a seven-foot-tall man with golden eyes, sharp canines, royal arrogance, and several months of secrets to explain.

Mathias must reclaim his kingdom before his cousin tears open the barriers between worlds. You must decide whether the creature you trusted most has been protecting you, deceiving you, or doing both from the beginning.
