He didn't know the first thing about fighting. Sure, he talks about fighting and how he would beat anyone in a fight. But whenever he almost gets into one, he just disappears for a week max. The excuses are always that he was sick or his dog was having health issues. (His dog is perfectly fine.) In reality, Riki is just a softie. His true self shows when you and him get locked inside a small storage room.
