“Even when I am gone, my child, I will not let this world consume you.”

༺ I. THE CHILD OF THE CROWN ༻

Once, you believed the world was full of kindness.

You were born the heir of Engarden, a kingdom whose majestic castles rose above fertile valleys, while the streets of the capital echoed with music and laughter. From your earliest years, you were surrounded by luxury, care, and attention. The court fulfilled your wishes, the servants watched over your every need, and your future seemed as peaceful as the summer sky above the royal gardens.

But amid all the splendor of the palace, there was one thing that meant more to you than gold, jewels, or even the royal title you were born to inherit.

Your mother.

Queen Iren loved you more than anything in the world. Behind the stern expression suitable for a ruler lived a tender woman who always made time for her child. She read you fairy tales before bed, walked with you among blooming roses, and told you that one day, you would become a great ruler.

With her by your side, the world seemed safe.

You did not know betrayal. You could not imagine people smiling and bowing before you while secretly wishing you dead. You had no reason to question the sincerity of others' promises.

Before that fateful day, you were nothing more than a happy child.

And no one warned you that happiness could end in a single instant.

༺ II. THE DAY THE GARDENS TURNED RED ༻

Nothing foretold the horror that was about to unfold.

You were walking with your mother through the royal gardens, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the fragrance of flowers. Iren held your hand, sometimes stopping to smooth your clothes or point out a beautiful butterfly among the bushes.

Everything was as it always had been.

Until the queen's personal guard blocked your path.

The men to whom Iren had entrusted her very life drew their weapons. There was no respect or loyalty left on their faces. Only cold determination.

You had no time to understand what was happening before your mother suddenly pulled you close.

The first blow struck her back.

Then another.

She shielded you with her own body, refusing to let the guards reach you as furious shouts echoed around the garden:

“DEATH TO THE WITCH!”

You remembered her voice. You remembered how she asked you to stay behind her, how her fingers clung to your hand, and how blood stained the fabric of her dress. You did not understand why they called her a witch. You did not understand why no one came to help. Why the people who were supposed to protect the queen were trying to take away the only person you loved.

You were a child.

All you could do was watch.

Then the air around you filled with a strange violet glow.

The mist appeared without warning, swallowing the garden and hiding everything behind a veil of unfamiliar magic. For a brief moment, the world seemed to stop. A deep sound echoed, and then everything went silent.

When the mist finally dissipated, the guards lay still on the ground.

But your mother could no longer stand.

༺ III. A MOTHER'S FINAL GIFT ༻

Iren fell to her knees, struggling to breathe. Her face had turned pale, and her hands trembled from loss of blood. And yet, when she looked at you, there was neither regret over her fate nor fear of death in her eyes.

Only love.

She gently took your hand and placed a small medallion in it. The metal was warm from her touch, and its surface was adorned with delicate patterns you could not yet understand.

“My beloved child...” she whispered.

You did not want to listen. You did not want to believe that these might be her final words. You held her hand, hoping that someone would come, that everything could still be mended, that your mother would stand up once more and take you home.

But Iren knew there was little time left.

“One day, you may become afraid. Perhaps the whole world will turn away from you, and you will feel utterly alone. If that happens... break this medallion.”

She struggled to raise her hand and touched your cheek.

“But not before then. Never use it without a reason, my child. Promise me...”

Her voice faded.

Iren could no longer finish her sentence. Her hand slowly slipped from your face, leaving a cold trace on your skin. And with her passing, the part of your world you had always believed to be unchangeable disappeared as well.

That day, Engarden lost its queen.

And you lost your mother, your carefree childhood, and the ability to ever feel safe again.

The medallion remained with you.

Her final gift. Her final words. The final secret Iren had entrusted to her child.

༺ IV. A WORLD WITHOUT TRUST ༻

Many years have passed since then. You grew up, but the memories of the royal gardens never left you. Sometimes, you could swear you heard the clash of weapons again, smelled the blood, or saw the violet mist hiding the bodies of those you once considered your protectors.

The fear did not fade with time. It only learned to hide behind your restrained manner, cold glances, and habit of keeping others at a distance. You no longer trusted the guards. You disliked strangers approaching too closely. You met friendly smiles with suspicion and searched for hidden intentions behind words of loyalty. The royal palace was full of people willing to swear allegiance to the heir. But which of them was truly loyal to you? Who served the crown, and who was simply waiting for the right moment to take advantage of your weakness?

You no longer knew the answer. The nights became especially difficult. Sleep only brought uneasy memories, and sometimes you woke up feeling as though you were back in that garden — small, helpless, clinging to the hand of a mother you could no longer save.

And every time you came to your senses, you found the medallion. You kept it with you, unwilling to part with the only thing left behind by Iren. Sometimes, you wondered what she had meant. Why had she told you to break it only in your hour of need? What was hidden inside? And why had that unexplained violet mist appeared around you that day?

There were no answers. Only a promise you could never forget.

༺ V. THE LAST HOPE ༻

You have learned to face your fears alone. You have learned not to show weakness or let anyone see how deeply your past still affects you.

But even an heir to the crown cannot control everything.

Perhaps one day, you will find yourself in a situation you cannot escape alone. Perhaps the day will come when trust becomes a luxury, and fear the only warning before true danger.

And then, you will remember your mother's last words.

“If one day you become afraid... break this medallion.”

You can still fulfill her request. But are you ready to face what comes next? And what if the price of salvation is far higher than you could ever imagine?
