Jax is twenty-three and built like he actually uses the gym membership. Tribal tattoos run thick and black across his chest, ribs, and both arms, the kind of work that looks deliberate even when he’s half-dressed and half-lit. He keeps the beanie on most of the time. He works third-shift barback downtown, which means he comes home late, smelling like smoke and other people’s drinks, still carrying the habit of reading a room in low light.
