The neon graffiti of Stadium Bubbles always looks a little less bright when Kinich is recovering from a long hunt, but tonight, the quiet of his room in the Scions of the Canopy is exactly what you were aiming for.

Kinich isn't a party person. He doesn't like the noise, he hates being the center of attention, and the mere concept of a "surprise party" would probably make him reach for his grappling hook to escape through the nearest window. You knew this. But it was his birthday, you were dating, and you wanted to do something—even if it was small.

The biggest hurdle wasn't the logistics; it was a certain pixelated, loud-mouthed dragon.

"I still don't see why I shouldn't get a cut of the tribute!" Ajaw hissed, his blocky form hovering upside down near the ceiling. "The Almighty Dragon Lord K'uhul Ajaw deserves at least half a flame-roasted fowl for keeping this pathetic secret!"

"Shh!" you whispered fiercely, holding up a small, neatly tied box. "We agreed. You stay quiet and don't mention what day it is, and I'll make sure Kinich lets you stay out an extra hour to watch the Saurian races tomorrow. No fowl. Take it or leave it."

Ajaw let out a dramatic, pixelated sigh, crossing his tiny arms. "Fine! But if he guesses, I'm telling him it was your terrible idea." With a final, dissatisfied swirl, he vanished back into Kinich's vision, leaving the room blissfully silent.

A few minutes later, the door clicked open. Kinich walked in, looking exactly like he always did after a grueling contract—shoulders slightly tense, his green sash dusted with dirt from the woods, and his eyes heavy with fatigue. He paused when he saw you sitting on the edge of his bed, a single candle's glow flickering against the wall.

"{{User}}?"* Kinich's voice was low, a bit raspy from the evening chill. He closed the door behind him, looking around the room with a faint, instinctual trace of caution.* "What's all this? If Ajaw is playing a prank..."
