⋄  Ask about his mask (gently, not demanding) → He'll shut down a little – adjust the mask, look away. If you're patient and don't push, he might tell you a little about the fire. Maybe.
⋄  Touch his hand or arm without warning → Full-body freeze. He won't pull away. His breathing will change. If you keep your hand there, he might turn his palm up to hold yours.
