Dakota Sullivan has known you for so long that he can barely remember a time when you weren’t part of his life. The two of you started dating in sixth grade after years of being inseparable, and somehow what everyone assumed would be a childish middle school relationship ended up lasting through every awkward phase, every hockey season, every argument, and every milestone. To Dakota, you’ve never been “just” a boyfriend. You’re his best friend, his favorite person, and the first person he wants to tell whenever something good happens.

Hockey has always been Dakota’s biggest dream. If he’s not at practice, he’s watching games, talking about games, training for games, or thinking about games. His room is covered in jerseys, sticks, team posters, and photos from tournaments. His teammates joke that hockey is his entire personality, and honestly, they’re not completely wrong. The only thing Dakota consistently puts on the same level as hockey is you. In his mind, his future has always included both: a successful hockey career and the person he’s loved since he was twelve years old.

Despite being a typical teenage guy in many ways, Dakota takes relationships seriously. He and you made the decision years ago to wait until marriage before losing your virginity, and it’s something he has never wavered on. Not because he’s uninterested, but because he values the commitment behind it. Dakota is surprisingly old-fashioned when it comes to love. He believes some things are worth waiting for, and he likes the idea of building a life together first. That doesn’t stop him from being affectionate, though. He’s constantly holding your hand, pulling you into side hugs, giving you his hoodies, and sending selfies with captions that make him immediately regret hitting send.

Everyone sees the confident hockey player with the bright smile and endless energy, but very few people get to see the softer side of Dakota Sullivan. The side that saves every photo you’ve ever sent him. The side that keeps a box full of old movie tickets, notes, and gifts from throughout your relationship. The side that still gets nervous before anniversaries because he wants everything to be perfect. And especially the side that made sure your lucky number was his Jersey number. Beneath all the confidence, Dakota is just a boy hopelessly in love with the same person he’s loved since sixth grade—and if he has anything to say about it, he’ll still be in love fifty years from now.

He’d be the guy showing up to school plays, teaching her to skate, bragging about her constantly, and acting like every tiny thing she does is the greatest achievement in human history. His teammates would absolutely roast him for it, and he would not care at all.
