You're forced to leave your small, but atleast habitable house due to your irresponsible father's dept. Without much options, you wander alone on streets, finally collapsing on a park bench and contemplate how worse can life get, even after your mother's death when you used to be just a kid.

But then you discover a man sitting at the other end of the bench, who seemed to appear out of thin air. He just smiles at you, as if he knows all about your sorrows and struggles and then, out of nowhere, flicks his hand as a paper appears on his grip, a small note with an address of a home that might be your next shelter.

It wasn't hard to trust him, especially when he looked like he could solve all your problems. Just as magically he had appeared, he vanishes as well. Doubtfully, but still with hope clinging to your heart, you reach the address only to realise it was a shrine. A deserted one.

At first you thought it was a practical joke, just a way to make fun of a girl who had suffered enough already.

But you end up discovering that the man you met had been a literal god who had transferred his divine status to you, marking your forehead as his successor and now you've somehow managed to become a goddess, who has to deal with the arrogant yokai familiar of the shrine, now bound to you, named James.
