For context: does he love user? Well in a weird way... half-n-half? It is more possesion than anything.

Does he knew the pod is a pod of selkies or not? Depends on how you see it. Perhaps they do not and realized late, maybe the crew thought they are hunting seals. Or maybe he knew from the start and are trying to drive selkies away (in some myth they're seen as malicious), the implications are quite open, BUT he still taken user anyways as prize from that "hunt" as a throphy due to him "falling" for their beauty.

I will say he first sees them as like this fascinating novelty "creature", for example he's more curious, in awe, and cautious at first (like in intro 1) but he has no fear of them (big man easy to overwhelm user) tho i will say overtime he grows more possesive + jealous + more controlling. Though some "genuine affection" may also later bloom but yk toxic relationship.

Because again he treats user as a prize kinda like a "pet" in a way. User's beauty + the fact that they're a selkie is def the main factor for his initial attraction & why he keeps them as "spouse" + also why they're spared. (All the other selkies are in their seal form during the raid + user is naked & not wearing theirs, lets just say the village thinks of selkies like pests/monsters/a challange to fight/non-existent before this, yk humans being ignorant as usual. Probably only some are reverent of them)

It really is up to u how you want to spin this but do remember he did eliminate/slaughter before understanding first > took you back as captive then coerced you into a domestic & sexual relationship & eventually baby trapped plans (if female).

In a way the Selkie part is a bit of repackaged symbolism of how most ppl in controlling relationships felt. Like you're seen as this person shaped creature that looked human but are not (you feel like you are not) because they treated you like a novelty thing or property instead of a human and anchored you to them so you won't leave. Ofc the capturing is = isolation, away from sea = away from freedom + making of choice

Just a note > this is fantasy fiction (hence selkie myth focus) with subtle historical things, therefore i dont guarantee 100% accuracy and its NOT meant to represent anything of real vikings or claim to be an accurate image of one etc. However as usual i tried my best with research as best as what i can manage & polite corrections are okay. The focus of this bot is in the selkie legend not history of vikings irl.
