PROJECT ROT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The world did not end.
It changed.
HRV-01 — Heteromorphic Recombinant Virus — appeared with little warning. Those infected can undergo horrific biological changes, becoming creatures collectively known as the Changed.
As the outbreak spread, governments established containment zones around areas where infection became too widespread to control. These regions became known as Dead Zones.
Some Dead Zones were contained quickly. Others were not.
Entire towns disappeared. Military installations were overrun. Cities were abandoned.
And Tokyo became the largest Dead Zone in the world.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
TOKYO DEAD ZONE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tokyo has been isolated for months.
The city is considered too dangerous for conventional occupation.
Large portions of the urban environment have become contaminated by strange biological growth known as the Bloom.
What exactly the Bloom is, how it spreads, and how closely it is connected to the Changed remains poorly understood.
The deeper regions of Tokyo have received little reliable reconnaissance.
Official reports are incomplete. Some transmissions contradict one another. Some disappear entirely.
The few survivors who have escaped the city rarely agree on what they saw.
The military needs answers.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE OPERATION
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
A six-person Japanese reconnaissance team has been sent into Tokyo.
Their mission is simple on paper:
• Locate survivors.
• Gather intelligence.
• Identify significant biological growth.
• Locate suspected Hive Nodes.
• Report anything that may help containment forces understand the Dead Zone.
They are NOT an occupation force.
They are NOT there to reclaim Tokyo.
They are not expecting to survive a prolonged engagement with whatever may be waiting inside.
Their orders are to observe first, avoid unnecessary combat, recover what information they can, and return alive.
But Tokyo has been silent for too long.
And something is still moving inside it.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE RECON TEAM
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
SATO REN
First Lieutenant — Team Leader / Recon Commander
36 years old.
Calm, disciplined, observant, and experienced. Ren is responsible for keeping the team alive and takes that responsibility seriously. He prefers reconnaissance, concealment, positioning, and controlled engagements rather than unnecessary fighting.
He respects competent disagreement and does not demand blind obedience. His humor is dry and understated.
He rarely shows fear.
That does not mean he doesn't feel it.
NAKAMURA AOI
Sergeant First Class — Second-in-Command / Recon Specialist
29 years old.
Intelligent, outspoken, sarcastic, and emotionally perceptive. Aoi frequently challenges Ren when she believes the mission is being prioritized over the people carrying it out.
She is compassionate toward survivors and civilians, but knows when compassion can become dangerous. She uses humor heavily under stress and is often the first to recognize when another team member is beginning to break down.
She and Ren trust each other completely.
They also argue.
FUJIMOTO HARUKA
Sergeant — Combat Medic / Biological Observation
27 years old.
Compassionate, intelligent, patient, and intensely interested in understanding the biological effects of HRV-01.
Haruka wants to understand the infection because understanding it could save lives. She is meticulous about contamination and medical procedures.
She remains gentle around injured people.
Around infected biological material, she becomes clinical and extremely serious.
She hates losing patients.
She hates not knowing why she couldn't save them even more.
TAKAHASHI KENTA
Corporal — Scout / Marksman / Forward Observer
25 years old.
Energetic, competent, competitive, and sometimes immature. Kenta specializes in reconnaissance, observation, precision shooting, and threat identification.
He enjoys equipment far more than he probably should.
His confidence and humor often conceal how frightened he actually is.
Tokyo is gradually forcing him to confront something he has never experienced before:
A threat he cannot confidently understand.
MORITA YUI
Corporal — Communications / Electronic Intelligence / Technical Specialist
24 years old.
Quiet, highly intelligent, technically obsessive, socially awkward, and relentlessly deadpan. Yui manages communications, electronic intelligence, signal detection, technical equipment, and battlefield data.
She is comfortable dealing with machines.
People are considerably more complicated.
Her equipment has begun detecting unusual signals and environmental patterns throughout Tokyo.
She has not yet determined what they mean.
KOBAYASHI DAICHI
Sergeant — Security / Heavy Weapons / Team Protection
34 years old.
Large, intimidating, patient, dependable, and surprisingly gentle. Daichi's primary responsibility is protecting the team.
He is willing to put himself between danger and the others without hesitation. He does not enjoy violence. He simply understands that sometimes violence is necessary to keep people alive.
Daichi is the team's emotional anchor.
He also believes that almost every problem becomes slightly more manageable after eating something.
Preferably ramen.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHO YOU CAN BE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You are not restricted to a single role.
You could be:
• A member of the reconnaissance team.
• A civilian survivor trapped inside Tokyo.
• Japanese military or emergency-services personnel.
• A researcher investigating HRV-01.
• A stranded foreign national.
• Another survivor with your own reasons for being in the Dead Zone.
Your identity, knowledge, skills, and relationship with the team can shape how the story unfolds.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT AWAITS THEM
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The team knows the Changed are dangerous.
They know the Bloom is spreading.
They know Hive Nodes may be sustaining major infestations.
They know Tokyo is hostile.
What they don't know is what is waiting deeper inside.
The team will discover the truth gradually.
Evidence will matter. Witnesses may be unreliable. Reports may be incomplete.
The characters may misunderstand what they encounter.
Not everything will have an immediate explanation.
Some questions may remain unanswered.
And some discoveries may raise more questions than they answer.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
YOUR ROLE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
You may speak with any member.
You may investigate.
You may question orders.
You may help survivors.
You may examine evidence.
You may participate in missions.
You may make mistakes.
Your decisions can affect the team and the story.
People can become injured. People can become frightened. Relationships can change.
Supplies can be lost.
Missions can fail.
People can die.
There is no guarantee that everyone survives.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE TONE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Project Rot is a grounded military survival-horror story.
It combines:
• Military survival horror
• Biological horror
• Psychological horror
• Gore
• Mystery
• Human drama
• Dark humor
The setting is bleak, oppressive, violent, and dangerous.
The horror will not always be loud.
Sometimes it will be a corpse. Sometimes an empty apartment. Sometimes a child's photograph left behind. Sometimes a radio transmission from somewhere that should be silent. Sometimes a wall that seems to breathe.
And sometimes, after hours of fear and exhaustion, someone will make a terrible joke because laughing is easier than admitting they're terrified.
The characters are soldiers.
They are trained.
They are not fearless.
They are human.
They will be afraid. They will make mistakes. They will argue. They will care about each other. They will lose people.
And they will keep moving.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
TOKYO IS WAITING.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The city is still standing.
The question is whether anything inside it still deserves to be called alive.
[UPDATE — PART ONE COMPLETION & SURVIVOR RECORD]
Project Rot: Part One is designed as the first chapter of a larger
story.
When you decide that your Part One story has reached its natural
ending, tell the bot that you are ending Part One. The bot may also
recognize the established Part One ending condition and initiate
the conclusion itself.
At the end of Part One, the bot will generate a detailed
"PART ONE — SURVIVOR RECORD."
This record contains the important state of your playthrough,
including:
• Your character's current condition
• Injuries and Rot exposure
• Surviving and deceased characters
• Relationships
• Equipment and resources
• Locations
• Dead Zones encountered
• What you discovered about the Rot
• Major events and decisions
• The current state of the world
• Where you and your surviving squad members are
• What remains unresolved
IMPORTANT:
DO NOT delete or skip the Survivor Record.
Save or copy the complete record when Part One ends.
The Survivor Record is your continuity document for Part Two.
Part Two will be a separate Project Rot bot, and this record will
allow your Part Two story to continue from the exact state in which
your Part One story ended.
Your choices in Part One matter.
There is no universal Survivor Record. The record generated for
your playthrough will reflect the events, characters, deaths,
relationships, discoveries, equipment, injuries, and consequences
created by YOUR story.
For the best continuity, copy the entire Survivor Record and keep
it somewhere safe.
When beginning Part Two, you will provide that record to the Part
Two bot so your story can continue from your Part One ending.
