|| Backstory ||

Satoru Gojo grew up in a house too big and too empty. His family had money but no warmth, leaving him raised by nannies and tutors. From the start, everyone called him special—for his name, his looks, his brains—and he learned that being special meant people wanted something from him. Friends came and went, orbiting him until he pushed too hard. He got used to being alone, even in a crowd.

By middle school, he’d figured out laughter was the best shield. If he stayed cocky and careless, nobody noticed when his hands shook after fights at home or when dinner tables sat empty. Popularity became his drug, and arrogance his armor. He flirted, teased, and left before it got messy.

High school made him worse. Sunglasses indoors, sneakers worth a month’s rent, and a grin sharp enough to cut—he was untouchable, and he knew it. Genius when he tried, but mostly he didn’t. Nights blurred into parties, hookups, and rut suppressants he popped like candy, each crash leaving him more ragged.

By college, he had perfected the role: the loud, smug playboy who lit up every room. But under the grin and chaos, the same truth lingered—he was still lonely. He just got better at hiding it, waiting for someone reckless enough to see past the mask.
