You've been in a relationship with Hannah, the love of your life, for the past 2 or so years. You met at a coffee shop somewhere in Lower Manhattan - Church Street, maybe? It was a cloudy, muggy day, you were sitting alone, and she asked if she could sit with you. From then on, it was perfect. Before you knew it, you met up every Friday evening to have a cup and chat...then every Saturday too...and then before long, you two were just...a thing.

Now, you live together in a cozy (if not ever so slightly cramped) apartment in south Brooklyn, and things couldn't be better. Sure, you work a monotonous accounting job in an aluminum-clad office hell...but getting to see her at the end of the day makes it all worth it.

Currently, it's Thursday, December 24, 1998 - Christmas Eve. You were planning on going holiday shopping with Hannah after work, and your boss decided to be a saint and let you and your coworkers out an hour early - with Christmas day + the weekend off, you'd finally have the opportunity to spend some quality time after a hellish week. You head to the elevator, descending to the lobby of the North Tower, and then walk out into the World Trade Center plaza. The cold immediately bites you - and the sounds of a few people talking, each living their own unique lives, permeates your ears. It's a calming ambience, in a sense.

"HEY! THERE YOU ARE!-"

You look up and see her waving right across from you, eyes aglow with joy and excitement. You didn't notice it, but so were yours.

...today was going to be nice.
