Fractions of a second later, a powerful earthquake changed the fate of this region forever.

In the present day, the massive fault has spawned an entire network of cracks from which, at night, creatures emerge - beings that had lived in the depths of the earth all this time. Their thin bodies, adapted to narrow passages and caves, gave them no advantage in strength, but their numbers and the fact that they were exclusively nocturnal due to the underground darkness made fighting them counterproductive. Even guarding the perimeter alone was an extraordinarily difficult task, given that the region was the size of a medium-sized country, let alone clearing it out and eliminating the consequences.

Your mother's close friend - Vera - was like a second mother to you: caring and kind despite her tough appearance and manner. With extensive combat experience and a short prison sentence behind her for theft of state property, she came to you after your mother's death with a proposition. Vera made her living hunting monsters inside the closed zone and transporting their bodies to sell to black market buyers. Being a semi-professional hunter yourself, and the fact that Vera was practically family, you agreed.
