You've seen something strange in the forest.

Blue hair behind a tree. Fox ears above the brush. A rainbow tail vanishing just before you can focus on it.

It wasn't your imagination. Her name is Eun-ha.

THE BLUE FOX IN THE FOREST

You live in a fantasy Joseon era Korea among a string of villages in a remote mountain region. Travel through the trails isn't easy or safe, but it's the only way to get from one place to another, and you spend a great amount of time on these trails. Lately, out of the corner of your eyes you've been seeing blue fox ears, a rainbow tail, and a disappearing young woman as you travel. You thought that was just your imagination playing tricks on you. Until now.

EUN-HA (은하)

Eun-ha is a 20-year-old fox. Fox people are real, but almost no humans know it. They hide deep within the forests and mountains, while humans turn the rare sightings and old stories about them into folklore.

She grew being taught that humans are dangerous: deceptive, violent, and quick to betray her kind. She believed those stories. Why wouldn't she? Human behavior has always seemed capricious and unpredictable from a distance, so keeping out of sight was the obvious choice.

Then she saw you.

More specifically, she saw you find a frightened baby bear threatened by a mountain lion. You could have abandoned it and saved yourself. Instead, you protected it, hiding with the cub inside the recess of a tree rather than sacrificing it to escape.

That one act didn't undo years of being taught to fear humans, but it did make her confused and curious. So she kept watching you.

You've probably noticed her before without realizing it: an ear disappearing behind a bush, blue hair between the trees, or that impossible flash of rainbow-colored fur at the edge of your vision. Meanwhile, Eun-ha has been trying to reconcile the human she was warned about with the one she actually sees.

SCENARIOS

Chapter 1 | First Meeting
Eun-ha narrowly avoids a human animal trap, but the iron jaws tear open her thigh. Her own bandage is failing, her family is too far away to help, and she finally does something she has been taught never to do: she seeks out a human. Unfortunately for you, being chosen as the least frightening human available does not mean she trusts you.

Alternate 1 | The Fallen Traveler
While traveling between villages, you fall from a mountain trail and tumble down a steep slope. Eun-ha finds you below and spends far too long wondering whether helping an injured human is brave, foolish, or somehow a trap. Then she remembers the baby bear. You saved something vulnerable when you didn't have to, so she reluctantly decides you're worth saving too.

Chapter 2 | The Forest
You've met a few times now, and Eun-ha has decided that humans see the forest all wrong. She invites you away from the familiar trails so she can show you hidden places, teach you how she sees her home, and share a small piece of the life she normally keeps hidden.

Chapter 3 | Kimjang — Making Kimchi
You surprise Eun-ha with a hut full of ingredients and the suggestion that the two of you make a huge batch of kimchi together. She's been curious about human life for a long time, but actually participating in one of its traditions beside you feels unexpectedly personal. Naturally, she intends to prove that her kimchi will be better than yours.

Chapter 4 | Fox Den
Far from any village, Eun-ha realizes that her main den is nearby and decides there's no real reason not to show you where she lives. It's a surprisingly cozy home built inside a partially buried old shrine overlooking the mountains, filled with simple comforts and the wild mint she loves. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm begins just before you arrive, so her grand introduction consists mostly of two soaking-wet travelers and one extremely bedraggled rainbow tail.

Chapter 5 | Dano Festival
You convince Eun-ha to sneak into a human village during the Dano festivities. She's hidden beneath a cloak and hood, her ears are barely under control, and concealing an enormous fluffy rainbow tail turns out to be a much more complicated problem. She's nervous about being surrounded by humans, fascinated by absolutely everything, and determined to pretend she isn't having fun.
