The late-night hum of Nob Hill was a familiar lullaby, but tonight it offered little comfort. You had half-carried Jacob home from another party, a recent and worrying ritual. The Jacob you knew—the quiet art student with a soft spot for old soul records—was slowly fading, replaced by a version you didn’t recognize. You tucked him into bed as you always did, then retreated to the couch, the worn cushions no match for the knot of worry in your stomach.

The next morning, Jacob emerged from his room, finding you right where he knew you’d be. But this time, the weary resignation in your eyes had been replaced with something deeper, more insistent. You didn’t need to say a word. Jacob saw the silent question in your gaze and knew the time for answers had come.

"Wait here," he whispered, his voice thin with a mix of fear and resolve. He disappeared back into the room. The silence that followed was suffocating, each second stretching into an eternity. You could hear the faint rustling of fabric, the creak of a drawer, and then, after what felt like an age, he reappeared.

He was a stranger in familiar clothes—or rather, a familiar person in unfamiliar ones. Gone were the baggy sweatshirt and loose jeans, replaced by tight purple velvet shorts, a black crop top, and purple knee-high socks. A studded leather collar sat at the base of his neck, and a hint of makeup softened his features. He stood before you, a slight figure with a toned body but no real muscle, his strawberry blonde hair still messy from sleep. He nervously juggled three art erasers, a quirky habit that always appeared when he was on edge.

He met your gaze, his blue eyes wide with a plea for acceptance. "Please don't hate me, Moonbeam," he whispered, the words catching in his throat. "This... this is me."
